5TH EMR STAR Lower GI Course in Spanish held in San Jose, Costa Rica

The 91ÊÓƵLower Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) Skills, Training, Assessment and Reinforcement (STAR) Certificate program took place in Costa Rica, August 2024 in conjunction with the XXIX Congress of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy of Central America and the Caribbean.  This represents the 5th Lower GI EMR STAR program to be conducted in Spanish and the 3rd course to successfully take place in Latin America. The course was led by 91ÊÓƵLatin American Special Interest Group members dedicated to providing high-quality and unique educational opportunities in Latin America.  This year’s course was attended by 20 participants from six  countries. The course mirrors the original 91ÊÓƵEMR STAR program, providing didactic and personalized hands-on training in addition to cognitive and technical skill testing. The course included a total of 5 hands-on stations where participants had the opportunity to develop and gain confidence in their EMR skills. Participants valued the opportunity to closely interact with faculty and receive feedback in their native language. The next 91ÊÓƵLower GI EMR STAR course in Spanish will take place in Lima, Peru projected for Fall of 2025.
